PORNCEPTUAL is back in London on the 16th of August to bring a taste of Berlin’s queer hedonism to a brand new East London venue.

For the next London event, Pornceptual wants to celebrate the power of unity and protest against the division sentiment that has become so strong in the UK. In such critical times that have favoured the rise of far-right groups, Pornceptual invites Londoners to a night of freedom of sexual expression, opposing the legitimisation of hate-fuelled narratives. Pornceptual believes that porn can expose and challenge anti-democratic ideologies and their continued existence by giving a voice to marginalised sexual identities.

In preparation for a steamy night of unrestrained freedom of sexual expression, visual and performance art, we spoke to five London performers who shared a bit of their story and gave us sneak peek into the pieces being performed on the 16th.

Sadiq Sadiq

Sadiq can mean a lot of things depending on the context. I love this about my name and its why I use it twice. It can mean friend or speaker of truth. It can mean the righteous one. It also means sadistic though, to be honest, I’m much more of a masochist. These elements come out in the work that I make. I am a circus artist and I use performance art and circus techniques to create both narrative and abstract works that reflect on the queer human condition. As an artist, I use my body to give pleasure both to the audience and myself. ”

One time during a mummification performance the post I was attached to failed and came out of the ground. I was completely restrained to an unstable object and could only fall forwards and crash on my face or straight back. I had a massive moment of internal panic not sure which way I was going to fall. I hit the deck back the way which was PERFECT because it looked intentional and I continued from the floor. Style it out. 

This round is going to be more explicit. Pornceptual means that we can perform unrestrained. Using clingfilm I will be mummified within the club. This traditional BDSM practice I will take and create a colourful interactive installation where you can get up close and personal with me and my bits. ”

Al/ice/ex Donaghy

Frustrated and confused by academic research, Alex needed an honest and visceral response to the social and political problems happening around them, this sense of radical truth has been the main through-line for their work since.

Performance is life, there is no barrier. Things that I like and dislike are equally important and you have to embrace it all as you cannot measure or limit what is going to happen in the moment.”

Alex’s piece will explore fetishisation of wealth, wage disproportion in London and what one would do or is legal to do for money. Using connotations associated with urolagnia’s ban in UK porn Alex seeks to question what is an abuse of labour? Flirting between the lines of exposure, public insecurity, consent and desperation.

Baby (Danni Spooner)

Baby would describe the piece she has planned for the party as sweet (definitely not salty). Her favourite thing about performing is the people she meets, the extraordinary experiences and staying playful.

Being a performer is hard but it’s so full of joy!

One of Baby’s most memorable moments as a performer was when she swabbed her vagina, anus, and mouth whilst nude for a performance by Al/ice/ex Donaghy. After swabbing her vagina, anus, and mouth around 18 times Baby, then put it back in a tube and gave it to an audience member.

Joshua Hubbard

Joshua Hubbard is a choreographer and performer who has worked internationally. Joshua is the mother of the House Of Decay, a UK based Kiki vogue house starring in  Deep In Vogue, a documentary about the northern British vogue scene. Combined with his commercial, club and creative work Joshua also teaches community classes and is the rehearsal director at Laban School of Dance

I’ve almost been arrested a couple of times… I shan’t be going into that because I’m not even sure I’ve got the all clear. But I did a performance once disguised as a “romantic” piece, where I pulled a heart out of my friends arsehole, she was dressed like a really sexy walrus at the time, I was “looking for a heart” apparently. Sounds like love, looked like horror. Maybe I’ll collect a few at Pornceptual.”

Lohan

Lohan is 25 years old dancer, nude model and masseur from Seville, Spain. When performing, he combines his love for music and fashion to try to create something new.

Lohan is planning a very sensual, sexual and sweaty show for the Pornceptual London event.

I don’t normally prepare anything in life. I think freestyle and improvising are the best way to show how you really feel about the music you are listening to. “
