“Sonder : a profound realization that everyone has a life as complex as one’s own, which they are constantly living despite one’s personal lack of awareness of it.
The term comes from a book called âThe Dictionary of Obscure Sorrowsâ, a collection of feelings that are incredibly difficult to express because up til recently, there were no words for them.
There are so many emotions I wish I could have evoked as a child, but the selection of many words I had growing up with werenât ever fitting. I felt so isolated in these feelings, so disconnected. In lifeâs perfect irony, we often feel most alone in our pain & our grief – in a not so very alone collective consciousness. So many people live in these same feelings, in their very own complex way. Sonder is truly is one of my most favorite words.“
