PORNCEPTUAL: Can you tell us about your artistic background and how it has influenced your work on “SISSY SMUT”?
Matt Lambert: “I’ve been working as a filmmaker fro 15+ years and for the 12 years I’ve been in Berlin, queer storytelling has been at the core of my work. Alongside making films, we’ve been putting on club and screening events that bring together the worlds represented within my films.”
P: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “SISSY SMUT” and how the project came to fruition?
ML: “As digital censorship has a stronghold on the work we are able to share with the world, the need for physical events and independent publishing are crucial. Berlin can also feel very isolating for filmmakers and artists and it’s always felt important to come together in a context outside of nightlife. “
P: How did you select the artists and filmmakers featured in the first volume of the series?
ML: “My curation is always quite personal and specific to my filmmaking work. This first series is made up of work that’s been inspiration to me over the years as well as contemporary work from peers in our community — past, present and future of experimental queer cinema. “
P:Can you share any details about the upcoming performance and music night at Roter Salon?
ML: “For this series, the energy of the screening will be echoed in the Roter Salon. David Hoyle is someone who’s been an icon for me and so many over the years will be coming over from Manchester and headlining the night. We’ll screen some archival shorts from David’s past alter ego — Divine David — and then join them downstairs for a sequel of sorts. David will be joined by some of my fav local performers — Nancy Girl and Mojo, The Sword Swallower of Switzerland.”
P: Can you discuss any future plans or projects for “SISSY SMUT” beyond the first volume?
ML: “It will be an ongoing series, the next installment after summer. ”
