Ode to masturbation is a photographic serie that explores the connection between sexual desire, self- isolation and internet. We lived in a world shared with our digital friends but now, in times of quarantine, our friendship with these non-humans is more strong and important. Computers, smartphones, photographic cameras created a safe (but also dangerous) space in which we are spending our time. Thanks to these non-humans we can still talk to our friends and family and feel less alone. At the same time they are filled with terrible news that don’t help us with anxiety, a very common thread on these days of self-isolation. Self-portraits are always been for me an act of masturbation but how does masturbation change when you are in quarantine with only your digital friends? A new idea of touching and feeling and loneliness can be created after this period in collaboration with digital and internet friends and our human friends. In these days the difference between this two kind of friendship is becoming always less visible since we talk to our friends through digital devices. Not only we have to think about ourselves, our sexuality, our mind but also on the role of friendship and human/non-human contact.
