One of the sexiest, dirtiest mouths in comedy belongs to Margaret Cho, the “bi-sexual-lesbian” Korean who proudly flies her fag-hag flag high, has no problem insulting John Travolta and regularly jokes about the perils of eating Vagina; she is everything I love in a woman. Pornceptual caught up with Margaret as she sets out on her famous comedy tour: Mother. I am happy to let you in on one little secret: Margaret posses something even more precious than humor- Honesty.
You are extremely open about sex, your sexuality and activism, why is this so important for the new generations just discovering these things?
I think privacy is really overrated, I mean, sharing these stories gives a lot of insight into humanity, the weirdness of walking around in a meat suit, which we need to care for in a number of ways and also the need to take into account other people’s suits as well as ours, then there are a million taboos and fears and myths and truths wrapped up in it, in all the pockets of our meat suits!
Sexuality has constantly evolved constantly throughout our time, and it seems to be evolving faster and faster, even more so in the last decades. How can love evolve alongside it?
Love always prevails, in small almost imperceptible ways, then in huge leaps and bounds.
Politics get wound up in everything too. I know, as I have performed gay weddings, the love that I witness in that legal process is profound. We have fought so hard for the right to marry – evolved into these warriors of love. We can almost forget that it’s just about two people. When it’s remembered, it’s powerful.
Is Pornography
important for humanity?
What is great about porn right now is that there is such a variety – it’s so specific to taste and seeks its own audience like water seeks its own level. There is something so beautiful and also so lonely about that.
Porn is a record of our tastes, our times – a historical portrait like no other, but also a snapshot of our true selves in an unguarded moment. I love vintage erotica because it captures the essence of an era that is instantly identifiable but then again a mystery. Sex is baffling, hilarious, rude, ghastly, sublime – it’s us and everything we are.
