Marc Martin is a French photographer living in Germany. His dirty art “man-smells”. He loves working men and lovely words; pigs and flowers too.
–
He has recently published his manly work, entitled “Dur Labeur”. With a first exhibition in Berlin completed at the Koll & Friends gallery, he now brings his work to Paris, to exhibit for the first time at the gallery of Nicole Canet, an aficionado of male art. Au Bonheur du Jour, 11 rue Chabanais Paris II, until January 30th 2016.

DUR LABEUR is about men, and the dimensions of the pleasure they can provide. From the pleasures they can unwittingly inspire in us, to the pleasure they themselves enjoy in posing for a camera. At work and at play. In their play-spaces and their head spaces. Newly- created scenes, or stolen clichés, DUR LABEUR turns the spotlight into the darker zones of erotic play, and confront our notions of beauty and repulsion; of good and bad taste.

Marc Martin shoots men without gimmickry, but he caresses them in a sophisticated light, always natural, almost painterly. His work presents a departure from the existing output of photographers who focus on the male body. Marc doesn’t concentrate on the sexual organ first and foremost ; nor does he fetishise the nude male body at the center of his images — yet, his approach is exceptionally erotic. Marc Martin’s photographs bring us into a blend of contemporary nostalgia. He strolls with ease at the confluence of pornography and poetry.

“Grace to Marc Martin, I can’t look at builders in the street in the same way ever again.”
(Nicole Canet)
