WHAT IS PORNCEPTUAL?
Pornceptual presents pornography as queer, diverse and inclusive. We aim to prove that pornography can be respectful, intimate and artistic, while questioning usual pornographic labels. “Can art succeed where porn fails – to actually turn us on?” The project is an art platform that wants to de-contextualize pornography in its usual sense and show that an explicit sexual content can be considered art. It started as an online gallery for erotic art and then became a collective for people to express their sexuality in a creative way. We now publish the work of professional or upcoming artists in the main section of the website, also encouraging anyone create their own porn. We believe that art (and sex) should be an open experience.
VISION STATEMENT
As Pornceptual, our main goal is to create an open space for everyone that’s interested in facing the real and sexual side of the human body through art. Far from being based on social acceptable concepts, we are looking to find original meanings to what does art, sexuality and pornography stand for and how it can be related. We believe that pornography is not about self-identification, but rather about interaction. It does indeed affect how we perceive ourselves (as sexually active and gendered beings) and our self-representations, but those meanings are not individual identifications – they are codes shared by a culture. Instead of trying to instruct the viewer, we do exactly the opposite. We question the usual representations and invite our audience to be more participative and reflexive about pornography.
