A Pelo by Fernando Troya – a meeting between movement and image
For A Pelo, the prequel to We play so hard it hurts presented at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival, Fernando Troya dives into a darker period of his life: a time of hypersexualisation where queer desire becomes conflict, and the body its battlefield. A raw, physical duet where two bodies chase, trap, and release each other – until nothing is left but skin, breath, and exhaustion.
My work, which questions forms of intimacy often censored or marginalised, found an immediate resonance in A Pelo. I aim to move beyond the labels of “pornography” or “eroticism,” giving the image back its full complexity and leaving each viewer the freedom to project their own reading. This collaboration is not here to please. It’s here to own – to push the viewer to the point where the line between art and sex blurs, and the image becomes as physical as the dance itself.
